The guest house is a large 18th century farm house. The farm house has been fully refurbished, but every care has been taken to ensure that the building's character and original features still remain.
Between 1858 and 1875, the guest house served as the Glamorganshire Reformatory School. In our breakfast room, we have on display original literature referring to that period. The school was for boys, a majority of which were admitted under the 1866 Reformatory Schools Act. This act was aimed at young boys in between the ages of 10 and 15 years of age who had been convicted of, or known to have committed various criminal acts.
The reformatory school was moved from Hawdref Ganol Farm to Ty-segur near Neath in March of 1875
